Tree Bookshelf

A sculptural bookshelf-desk that combines functionality, artistic installation, and the symbolism of nature. More than just a piece of furniture, it becomes the defining element of an interior space.

Context

Designed to integrate into a contemporary home, the Tree Bookshelf transcends the role of utilitarian furniture. The idea was to combine a bookshelf, a desk, and suspended elements into a unique, custom-made ensemble, in direct dialogue with the existing architecture.

Intention

The objective was to create a piece of furniture that, beyond its function, stands as an architectural and poetic installation. Inspired by the growth of a tree, its structure evokes a solid trunk that branches out, carrying books and knowledge. This symbolism of the tree of knowledge gives the piece an organic and living dimension.

Realization

The ensemble combines an integrated desk, open and closed storage, as well as wall-mounted and suspended shelves. The spatial composition plays on vertical and horizontal lines, unfolding both on the wall and towards the ceiling. The contrasting materials – solid light wood and black modules – enhance the sculptural effect and punctuate the perception.

Symbolic Dimension

The bookshelf here becomes a ‘tree of knowledge,’ whose branches extend into the space and transform daily life into an aesthetic experience. It embodies the idea of habitat-furniture: both a support for practical uses and a symbolic installation that gives meaning and identity to the interior space.

The Tree Bookshelf combines a desk, storage elements, and a set of suspended shelves in a composition evoking the silhouette of a tree. Alexandre Drabzak envisions this furniture as a functional artwork, where light and black wood modules create a play of branches and boughs interacting with light.
